Rich Girl Caretaker Light Novel Saijo no Osewa Gets Anime Adaptation
An anime adaptation of Yuusaku Sakaishi’s light novel series Saijo no Osewa has been announced. The series is a romantic comedy that began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou in April 2020 before being picked up by Hobby Japan’s HJ Bunko imprint in May 2021 with illustrations by Sakura Miwabe.
The story follows Itsuki Tomonari, a high school boy who ends up secretly looking after the most admired girl at his elite school. The premise plays with the contrast between her polished public image and the reality of needing someone in her corner behind the scenes. The series currently has eleven volumes in print in Japan. A manga adaptation by Sorahiko Mizushima has been running on Hobby Japan’s Comic Fire website since July 2021 with four volumes out so far.
No air date, studio, or cast have been announced yet. The announcement came through HJ Bunko’s official X account.
My take: Eleven volumes in means this series has built a real reader base, and the manga running alongside it gives the adaptation a solid pool of material to draw from. The secret caretaker setup is cozy and reliable territory for romcoms. Worth watching for production news as it comes.
