Top 10 Manhwa Anime Adaptations, Ranked
Korean webtoons have gone from novelty to one of anime’s main pipelines in five years. These ten adaptations are ranked on quality, faithfulness and how well they translated a vertical scroll into a television frame.
The rankings
- Solo Leveling. The one that proved it could work at the top level. A 1 Pictures gave Jinwoo’s shadows real weight, and the second season won Anime of the Year.
- Tower of God. Rough around the edges, but the first serious attempt and still the most ambitious world.
- Overgeared. J.C. Staff’s adaptation of Grid’s blacksmith rise, arriving in fall 2026 with the second largest fanbase in the genre behind it.
- Tomb Raider King. Filled the Solo Leveling shaped hole in summer 2026 with a nastier protagonist.
- Lookism. Netflix’s adaptation of the body swap bullying drama is sharper than it looks.
- The God of High School. MAPPA’s fight animation was spectacular; the pacing was not.
- Noblesse. A vampire noble in a modern school, faithful and underseen.
- A Returner’s Magic Should Be Special. Time loop fantasy that improved noticeably by its second season.
- Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint. The film adaptation of the biggest webtoon still waiting on a full series.
- SSS Class Revival Hunter. Arriving January 2027 and already the most anticipated entry on this list.
What changed
Early adaptations tried to cram vertical pacing into 12 episodes. The recent wave gives the material room, and the results show.
My take: Solo Leveling is the obvious top pick, but the real story is that manhwa adaptations went from a gamble to a guarantee in one generation of anime.
