Saijo no Osewa Rich Girl Caretaker Light Novel Series Gets Anime Adaptation
An anime adaptation is in development for Yusaku Sakaishi and illustrator Sakura Miwabe’s Saijo no Osewa light novel series, also known in English as Rich Girl Caretaker: I’m Secretly the Caregiver of the Most Popular Girl in This Rich Kid School. The announcement came from the official HJ Bunko account on X.
The light novel series began as a web novel on Shousetsuka ni Narou before Hobby Japan started publishing it under the HJ Bunko label in May 2021. The 11th volume is set to ship on October 31. A manga adaptation drawn by Sorahiko Mizushima has also been running on Hobby Japan’s Fire Cross website since September 2021, with the fifth volume due on December 1.
The story follows Itsuki Tomonari, a high school student who ends up becoming the secret caretaker of Hinako Konohana, a girl from one of Japan’s most powerful conglomerate families. While Hinako projects the image of a poised and capable young lady at school, she is actually someone with almost no practical life skills. Itsuki quietly helps her manage, and over time the two grow closer. Spain-based publisher Monogatari Novels announced an English release of the novels in 2023, with the first volume previously listed for March 2026, though the publisher has noted release delays due to logistics issues.
My take: Saijo no Osewa has the warm, low-key chemistry that tends to make this kind of romantic comedy work well in anime form. The premise sets up a fun and natural dynamic between the leads, and the gap between Hinako’s public image and her actual self is the kind of detail that carries a story well. Worth keeping an eye on once more details about the anime come out.
