One Piece Manga Takes a One-Issue Break for Oda’s Health
The One Piece franchise has announced that Eiichiro Oda’s manga will take a one issue break, skipping the 45th issue of Weekly Shonen Jump, as Oda is recuperating from poor health.
According to the announcement, the manga is planned to return in the following issue, which Shueisha will release a little later than usual due to a national holiday in Japan.
The series remains as strong as ever, with its most recent volume having shipped over the summer. The long running anime adaptation, which first premiered back in 1999, continues alongside it, having reached the Egghead arc in early 2024.
The wider world of One Piece keeps expanding too, with a HEROINES light novel set for its own anime and a second live action season on the way at Netflix.
My take: A creator’s health always comes first, full stop. Oda has poured decades into One Piece, and a single week off is the least he deserves. I simply hope he rests well and comes back feeling strong.
