Sun-Ken Rock and MAGICA Get English Releases in 2026
At its New York Comic Con panel, the publisher Kodama Tales, a subsidiary of Kyodo Printing, announced that it has licensed two manga for English release: Boichi’s Sun-Ken Rock and Yuzuko Hoshimi’s MAGICA. Sun-Ken Rock arrives in 2026, with MAGICA following in March of that year.
Sun-Ken Rock will be released as a deluxe Perfect Edition, an omnibus that combines about two of the original volumes per book. Kodama’s version comes with new cover art made just for this release and draws from both the original Japanese edition and the newer Korean Perfect Edition, which features revised dialogue by Boichi himself.
The series follows Ken Kitano, a Japanese teenager who chases the girl he loves all the way to Seoul. Once there, his remarkable fighting skills quickly get him noticed, pulling him into a life far removed from the one he imagined.
Boichi is best known to many readers as the artist of Dr. Stone, and Sun-Ken Rock has long carried a cult reputation, so a polished English edition is welcome news.
My take: Boichi’s art makes almost anything worth a look, and a proper Perfect Edition is the ideal way to finally experience Sun-Ken Rock. I am glad both it and MAGICA are getting their moment with English readers.
