K Manga Brings Hana kun Cant Live without Me to English Readers
Kodansha’s K Manga digital service has added Hana kun Can’t Live without Me, known in Japanese as Himokuzu Hana kun wa Shinitagari, to its English language lineup.
The manga comes from creator Ameko and centers on Kaede Yoshino, a young woman who has pushed herself to the point of exhaustion trying to keep up with work. On what turns out to be the worst day of her life, she encounters a mysterious young man who goes by Hana kun and says he has nowhere to go. They end up sharing her home on a temporary basis, and as they spend time together something begins to change for Kaede. The story eventually builds toward a surprising revelation about who Hana kun really is. Kodansha describes it as a deadly romance pairing a clingy and directionless young man with a warm-hearted but worn-out young woman.
Ameko originally launched the manga on the Palcy manga app in May 2024. Kodansha published the second compiled book volume on May 13.
My take: The setup here is charming in a slightly unhinged way, which is exactly the kind of premise that tends to work well in this genre. Glad to see it getting an English release through K Manga.
