Isshiki-san Romantic Comedy Manga Is Getting an Anime
Kadokawa announced on Friday that Ayune Araragi’s romantic comedy manga Isshiki-san wa Koi o Shiritai, or Isshiki-san Wants to Know Romance, has been given the green light for a television anime. Araragi marked the occasion with a celebratory illustration.
The series pairs two characters who are equally lost when it comes to love. Rinna Isshiki is an elite, straight laced officer who joined the police at just 17 yet has never experienced romance, while Meishi is a kind but scatterbrained and rather hopeless detective.
Both newcomers to matters of the heart, the two end up forming a sort of couple as a way to figure out what romance is really about, which is where much of the show’s gentle comedy is likely to come from.
Araragi has been serializing the manga in Kadokawa’s Monthly Shōnen Ace, and the ninth collected volume is due out on October 23.
My take: Two earnest, clueless adults stumbling toward love together is such a charming premise. I have a feeling this one will be a warm, easygoing watch.
