CLAMP’s New Magic Knight Rayearth Anime Arrives in 2026
The official site for CLAMP’s Magic Knight Rayearth announced on Friday that a new anime in the franchise will air on TV Asahi and affiliated channels next year. A fresh teaser visual was shared alongside the news.
For those new to it, Magic Knight Rayearth follows three high school girls named Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu. During a class trip to Tokyo Tower, they are suddenly swept away to the fantasy world of Cephiro, where the mage Clef explains that the land is dying.
The cause is the priest Zagato, who has kidnapped Princess Emeraude, the one whose prayers hold the world together. Without her, Cephiro is slipping toward collapse, so the three girls are granted magical powers as the Magic Knights and must learn to work as one to save it.
CLAMP first serialized the manga in Kodansha’s Nakayoshi magazine from 1993 to 1996 across six volumes. It went on to inspire two anime seasons in the mid 1990s, as well as a 1997 original video anime that retold the story in an alternate form.
The series has been kept alive for English audiences over the years too, most recently through Discotek Media, which released a complete collection in 2017.
My take: A fresh take on Magic Knight Rayearth is exciting news, since the original is such a beloved classic. I really hope this new version honors what made CLAMP’s story so special while introducing it to a new generation.
