Diabolik Lovers Anime Streams Daily on YouTube in India

Diabolik Lovers is getting an easy new way to watch in India. Muse Asia announced on Saturday that it will stream the anime, based on the Diabolik Lovers vampire drama CD and PlayStation Portable game project, as a daily upload on YouTube, with a new episode going live every day at 5:30 p.m. IST.

The rollout is not limited to India. The anime is also streaming across Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Studio ZEXCS first adapted the franchise into a television anime in 2013, and Sentai Filmworks later released it on DVD with both English dub and subtitles in December 2014. A sequel, Diabolik Lovers II: More, Blood, premiered on AT X in September 2015, and JioHotstar is already carrying both seasons in India.

The original project from Rejet revolves around the six sadistic Sakamaki vampire brothers. Yui Komori is an upbeat, positive thinking girl who is nonetheless haunted by spirits and poltergeist activity. In her second year of high school she transfers to a night school for entertainers and celebrities because of her father’s work, only to find rumors of vampires among the students and to end up living with the Sakamaki brothers herself.

Beyond the anime, the franchise has stretched into other media as well, including a stage play adaptation back in August 2015.

My take: Free daily episodes on YouTube are a lovely, low barrier way to revisit a cult favorite, and it is great to see classic titles like this reaching wider audiences across the region.
