Crime Noir Webtoon I Am a Sinner Is Getting a Live Action Drama
Korean crime noir webtoon I Am a Sinner is getting a live action adaptation. Korean entertainment outlets confirmed on October 29 that actors Park Seo-joon and Um Tae-goo will lead the cast. The webtoon is written by Imugi and originally ran on Kakao Webtoon starting in 2022.
The story is set in the 1980s and follows two men whose lives become tangled in the criminal underworld of a lawless city. Park Seo-joon plays Paeng-i, the lone survivor of a gold shop massacre who takes the stolen goods and uses them to climb into the drug trade. He is portrayed as cold and calculating, someone who engineers gang wars to get what he wants. Um Tae-goo has been offered the role of Saeng-dak, a brutal and loyal fighter who rises through a criminal organization through sheer force of will, though with a softer side in his devotion to the woman he loves.
The series built a following on Kakao Webtoon for its unflinching look at crime, survival, and betrayal. It follows the partnership and eventual clash between these two very different men operating in a world with no rules.
No official English version of the webtoon is currently available, so international readers interested in the story will be waiting on the drama adaptation. No premiere date or streaming platform has been announced yet.
My take: This pairing is genuinely interesting. Park Seo-joon playing a calculating crime boss is a very different energy than his more romantic roles, and if the webtoon’s gritty reputation carries into the drama it could be a dark and compelling watch. Worth keeping an eye on when more details come out.
