Fourteen years in the making
When the original anime was cancelled in 2012, the manga’s final arc had never been animated, and for a decade fans assumed it never would be. The Thousand Year Blood War project changed that in 2022, and each cour since has adapted the war against Yhwach and the Sternritter with a budget and intensity the old series could only dream about.
The Calamity adapts the closing stretch of the manga, including material Tite Kubo expanded and revised beyond the original printed ending. That means even manga readers are watching partially new canon unfold.
Kubo’s involvement has been the quiet miracle of this revival. This is not a studio guessing at an ending. It is the author finishing his sentence.

My take: Bleach getting a real ending is one of the best things to happen to anime this decade. Every abandoned adaptation now has a precedent to point at, and that matters beyond this one series.
