SHY Manga to Conclude With Its 293rd Chapter
Bukimi Miki, the creator of SHY, announced on X this past Thursday that the manga is wrapping up. The story will close out in three more chapters, ending with its 293rd, which brings this long running superhero series to its finish.
SHY has come a long way. It started as a one shot that won the Newcomer’s Grand Prize in Akita Shoten’s Next Champion back in 2016, before beginning full serialization in Weekly Shounen Champion in August 2019.
The series has steadily built a following, passing 1.4 million copies in circulation. The 31st volume arrived on October 8, and the 32nd and final volume is set for December 8.
It reached the screen as well, with studio 8bit producing a twelve episode anime in the fall of 2023 and a second season the following summer. Crunchyroll simulcast both worldwide with subtitles and an English dub, while Yen Press has been publishing the manga in English since 2022.
My take: Endings are always bittersweet, but reaching nearly 300 chapters is a wonderful run. SHY’s gentle message about believing in yourself has real heart, and I hope it gets the warm finale it deserves.
