You Can’t Bluff the Sharp-Eyed Sister Manga Returns in March
The November issue of Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine revealed on Monday that Yo Asami’s manga You Can’t Bluff the Sharp-Eyed Sister, adapted from Natsu Hyūga’s light novel, will return in the magazine’s March issue. The comeback follows a three chapter side story, after the current run wrapped up in July.
The news is well timed for English readers, as Kodansha USA is set to release the first volume on October 21.
The story is a charming mix of fantasy and mystery. By day, Chloe plays the part of a prim, naive novice training to become a priestess. By night, she sneaks out in disguise to clean up at the card tables.
When her reputation spreads, a dashing young holy knight named Heraldo seeks her out, believing she can use a rare magical Gift to solve a murder that has been threatening the kingdom. The twist is that Chloe’s winning streak is not magic at all, just quick wits and a sharp eye.
Asami began the manga in 2023, working from a novel by Hyūga, the author behind the hugely popular Apothecary Diaries.
My take: A heroine who fakes a magical gift using nothing but cleverness is a delightful hook, and coming from the Apothecary Diaries author, the mystery angle has real promise. I am glad it is returning soon.
