Aoashi Season 2 Premieres Today: Ashito Joins the A Team
The best football anime of the decade is back. Aoashi Season 2 premieres today, October 4, on Crunchyroll, with TMS Entertainment returning and dubs in English, Spanish, Portuguese, German and French confirmed at launch.
Promotion is only the start
Aoi Ashito’s game earned him a spot on Esperion’s A team, and season two is about discovering how much that promotion hurts. Surrounded by elite players like Kuribayashi and Akutsu, with practices as merciless as the matches, Ashito has to evolve fast or get crushed in the U18 Premier League. Yugo Kobayashi’s manga treats this stretch as the point where talent stops being enough, and the anime has the material to match.
Season one stood out because it cared about the tactical side of football, the spatial awareness and positioning most sports anime skip in favor of special shots. The A team arc doubles down on that, and Ashito’s growth as a reader of the pitch is the spine of the story.
The September preview paid off
The main trailer previewed the theme song and confirmed the date back in early September, and the response from fans of the first season suggests this is one of the fall’s most anticipated returns. The premiere date was reported in Crunchyroll’s schedule via Animation World Network.
My take: Aoashi is the sports anime for people who actually watch football. Season 2 covering the A team grind is the part I have wanted animated since I read it.
