Tougen Anki Season 2 Premieres October 2
Tougen Anki is back in a hurry. Season 2, subtitled the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, revealed a new key visual, an English language trailer and additional cast members, all pointing to an October 2 premiere. The sequel was announced right after the first season wrapped its 24 episode run.
Oni versus Momotaro, round two
Yura Urushibara’s manga flips the classic Momotaro folktale into a modern battle series, where descendants of oni and descendants of the demon slaying hero are still killing each other in secret. Season one followed Ichiru Suzaku, a hot headed teenager who learns he carries oni blood, into a school that trains kids like him to survive the war. The Nikko Kegon Falls Arc pushes that conflict out of the classroom and into open territory.
The fast turnaround is notable. A second season arriving only a few months after the first ended suggests the production was planned as a continuous run, which usually means steadier animation and fewer awkward recap episodes.
Where it lands
October 2 puts Tougen Anki on the same premiere day as The Apothecary Diaries Season 3, a tough neighbor but a good sign of confidence. The details were reported by Anime Corner.
My take: Tougen Anki works because it commits to being angry, and the Kegon Falls material gives that anger somewhere to go. Quick sequel, good sign.
