Why this absurd premise works
The setup remains gloriously stupid: Rentaro is fated to meet one hundred soulmates, and rejecting any of them dooms that person, so he commits to loving them all equally and completely. What sounds like a harem cliche runs instead as a full throttle gag machine, with each new girlfriend arriving as a fresh comedic engine rather than a love triangle obstacle.
The secret is sincerity. Beneath the escalating absurdity, the show genuinely believes in every relationship it depicts, and that total commitment to the bit is what separates it from the genre it parodies. Season 2 pushed the roster and the jokes harder, and Season 3 promises more of everything.
