Witch Hat Atelier Manga is Getting a New Novel
Kodansha is releasing a new novel set in the world of Kamome Shirahama’s manga Witch Hat Atelier. The novel is titled Shōzetsu Tongari Bōshi no Atelier Special Stories and is written by Jun Esaka, also known for writing the One Piece novel HEROINES. Shirahama is credited for supervision and the original work.
The book contains three short stories. The first follows Olruggio as he heads into the snowy mountains searching for the missing Qifrey. The second brings a dragon managing group to the atelier with a new request for Olruggio. The third is set in the location Ezrest, where Easthies and others go undercover to confiscate illegal magic devices.
In addition to the novel announcement, the Witch Hat Atelier anime is on track to premiere in 2026 with Crunchyroll handling international streaming. Ayumu Watanabe is directing at the studio BUG FILMS, with Hiroaki Kojima producing and Yuka Kitamura, known for the Elden Ring soundtrack, composing the music. Kairi Unabara is designing the characters.
The manga itself follows Coco, a girl who dreams of becoming a witch in a world that treats magic as something you are born with rather than something you can learn. A chance encounter with the traveling magician Qifrey challenges everything she thought she knew, and her seemingly impossible dream begins to look far more reachable. The series is beloved for its warm storytelling and intricate artwork.
My take: Three short stories with Olruggio getting more page time sounds like a genuine treat. The snowy mountain search premise for the first story already feels cozy and slightly heartbreaking in the best way. Very much looking forward to this one.
