Wandance Anime’s English Dub Hits Hulu in November
The English dub of Wandance, the anime based on Coffee’s hip hop dance manga, is coming to the United States in November on Hulu. Disney’s senior dubbing manager Reuben Lack shared the news on X, noting that the dub is already streaming on Disney+ in other countries.
On the dub side, Anthony Bowling is directing, Madeleine Morris adapted the English script, and Lack is producing the work at Iyuno Media Group.
The anime itself premiered on TV Asahi on October 8 and began streaming in Japan a day later. Michiya Katō, known for Okko’s Inn, directs at Madhouse and Cyclone Graphics, and the show leans on real dance pedigree, with RIEHATA, a choreographer for groups like EXILE, KAT-TUN, and BTS, serving as its dance producer. BE:FIRST perform the opening theme, while ELSEE handle the ending song.
The story, published in English by Kodansha USA, follows Kaboku, a boy who has always quietly gone along with what parents and school expect of him, leaving him feeling safe but empty. That changes the night he stumbles on a girl named Hikari Wanda dancing alone, turning a plain concrete space into something alive.
Captivated, Kaboku feels a sudden pull to join in. Fans of coming of age stories like Blue Period and Your Lie in April will find a familiar, inspiring spirit here, this time built around the thrill of hip hop dance.
My take: Stories about finding yourself through art or movement always hit a soft spot for me. With genuine choreographers behind it, I am hopeful the dance scenes feel as alive as they should.
