Trigun Stargaze Confirms 2026 Finale Release Window to Conclude Crunchyroll’s Biggest 2023 Surprise
Crunchyroll’s 2023 anime slate was packed with genre-defining hits near the end of the year, but in January it introduced one killer seinen reimagining. Trigun Stampede dropped in the Winter 2023 season and, despite skeptical reception at first, it provided an impressive showcase of action with its new rendition courtesy of Studio Orange. Now, the series hurtles toward its conclusion.
Trigun Stargaze, as confirmed at New York Comic-Con 2025, is the epic finale promised for the Crunchyroll surprise hit of 2023, with its release window set for January 2026. The series will simulcast on Crunchyroll alongside its Japanese debut. With the original Trigun and Trigun Maximum running until 2007, Trigun Stargaze could capture the series like never before.
Crunchyroll’s 2023 Surprise Hit Has Stiff Competition in Winter 2026
While Trigun Stargaze is a uniquely fluid and exciting series among modern anime offerings, it’s running into a lot of terrific competition even just on Crunchyroll. Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End season 2 leads the pack ahead of its January 16, 2026 debut, while key returns like Hell’s Paradise, Jujutsu Kaisen, and Oshi no Ko will also demand viewer attention.
It’s not even the usual hits Trigun Stargaze will have to compete with, either, with Disney and Hulu’s Medalist bringing its own acclaimed use of 3D CG animation to the mix. But that hasn’t stopped Trigun Stargaze from being a highly anticipated 2026 release, with the opportunity to fully adapt Yasuhiro Nightow’s manga. It retains its own unique appeal.
With hits like Beastars and Land of the Lustrous under their belts, Trigun’s Studio Orange is acclaimed for their particular careful use of CGI, rather than despite it. In fact, it’s often CGI that’s credited with ruining an anime, especially more anticipated offerings like Kingdom or Berserk. However, Orange wields this as a feature of its brand, not a bug.
What Stargaze brings to the table, much like it did in 2023, was Studio Orange’s excellent use of CG animation running contrary to typical assumptions about its quality in anime. Love it or hate it, the result is far from a carbon copy of the Madhouse 1998 classic with far more spirit and flair than usual CGI offerings.
Trigun Stargaze Depicts the Next Chapter in Vash’s Saga
Marked with the absurdly high bounty of $$60,000,000,000 for the inadvertent incident creating Lost JuLai, Vash adopts an alias, Eriks, and chooses to live in hiding. Trigun Stargaze will bring back familiar faces, like Meryl Stryfe, and bring highly-demanded fan-favorite Milly Thompson into the fold, voiced by Chika Ayamori, alongside the welcome return of Nicholas D. Wolfwood.
The promotional images show these returning characters, alongside a revamped design for Milly compared to the 1998 anime or the manga. It also solidifies the return of Vash’s iconic original hairdo as previously teased by the end of Trigun Stampede. The anime is set to drop its finale as Vash brings the fight to Millions Knives.
With the fate of humanity at stake, No Man’s Land sees the juxtaposed forces promising salvation and destruction, while Vash fights to prevent human loss while resolving his ultimate personal feud in a way only he can. By the end, new fans might find Vash truly unrecognizable, but his rogueish charm will shine through no matter what.
