Top 10 Anime Fights of All Time, Ranked

Everyone has a fight they show people to explain why they love anime. These are ours. The list is ranked on animation, stakes and how much the fight changes the story around it, not just on who hits hardest.

The rankings

1. Gon vs Pitou, Hunter x Hunter. Not a fight so much as a funeral. Gon’s transformation is the most horrifying power up in anime because of what it costs, and Madhouse frames it like a tragedy rather than a triumph.
2. Rock Lee vs Gaara, Naruto. The fight that taught a generation what hard work looks like. Lee dropping his weights remains the purest hype moment the series ever produced.
3. Luffy vs Katakuri, One Piece. A twelve hour duel that ends in mutual respect. Katakuri is the rare villain who earns the hero’s growth instead of just absorbing it.
4. Saitama vs Boros, One Punch Man. The only time the joke gets to stop for a minute and let Saitama be a superhero.
5. Yuji and Todo vs Hanami, Jujutsu Kaisen. The best tag team choreography MAPPA has ever animated.
6. Tanjiro and Nezuko vs Rui, Demon Slayer. The episode that turned Demon Slayer into a phenomenon overnight, and it still holds up.
7. Ichigo vs Ulquiorra, Bleach. Hollow Ichigo’s rampage is Bleach at its most unsettling.
8. Levi vs the Beast Titan, Attack on Titan. Two minutes of controlled fury that pays off three seasons of grief.
9. Mob vs Koyama, Mob Psycho 100. The moment Mob’s percentage hits 100 for the first time is still the best use of Bones’ animators.
10. Thorfinn vs Thorkell, Vinland Saga. Brutal, grounded and a reminder that Wit can do realism as well as spectacle.

Honorable mentions

Goku vs Frieza on Namek, Jotaro vs DIO, and Deku vs Overhaul all deserve a place on longer lists. Every ranking like this is an argument, and that is the fun of it.

My take: Gon versus Pitou is number one because it is the only fight here I would not want to rewatch. That is how you know it worked.
