The Iceblade Sorcerer Season 2 Premieres Today

Ray White returns today. The Iceblade Sorcerer Shall Rule the World II premieres October 8 on Crunchyroll, animated by CLOUDHEARTS, with English, German, Hindi, Spanish and Portuguese dubs at launch.

The ordinary student who never was

Season one ran on a familiar engine: Ray, dismissed as the only commoner at the elite Arnold Academy of Sorcery, secretly being the Iceblade Sorcerer, one of the most powerful mages alive. By the end of that season the secret was mostly out and the academy had to reckon with him. Season two opens a new school year with the Magicks War, a grand competition pitting teams from rival schools against each other, while the other grand sorcerers quietly maneuver in the background.

Tournament arcs are where this kind of series earns or loses its audience, and the Magicks War is the light novels’ most popular stretch. The trailers have shown a noticeable step up in production, which CLOUDHEARTS needed after a first season that was solid but rarely spectacular.

Where to start

Season one is a quick twelve episodes and worth the catch up. The premiere date was confirmed in Crunchyroll’s lineup as reported by Animation World Network.

My take: Iceblade is comfort fantasy with a better cast than its premise deserves. A tournament season is the right move, as long as the animation keeps up with the ambition.
