Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon: Fall 2025 Preview
Among the fall 2025 isekai offerings is Backstabbed in a Backwater Dungeon, a revenge fantasy with one of the longest titles of the season.
The setup is pure power fantasy. Light is betrayed and cast out by his former party, barely escaping with his life, only to end up in the deepest reaches of the Abyss, the realm’s most dangerous dungeon. His one magic skill, the Unlimited Gacha, has always produced junk, but this time it summons Mei, a Level 9999 fighter. Three years on, Light has built his own kingdom down there, gathered an army of loyal Level 9999 warriors, and become an Overlord himself, ready to climb back to the surface and settle the score.
The series is based on the light novels by Shisui Meikyou with illustrations by tef, and it streams on HIDIVE with new episodes on Fridays.
If you enjoy the betrayal and overpowered comeback flavor of isekai, this lands squarely in that lane.
My take: I will be honest, this one wears its tropes openly and is not aiming to surprise anyone. The revenge isekai formula has plenty of fans, so if that is your comfort genre it may scratch the itch, but viewers hoping for something fresh may want to look elsewhere this season.
