Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 Anime Anthology Reveals Its Visuals
New visuals have arrived for the shorts in the Tatsuki Fujimoto 17-26 anime anthology, as the project nears its November 8 debut on Prime Video. There will also be a two week theatrical run in Japan beginning on October 17.
The anthology adapts a selection of one shots from the collections Tatsuki Fujimoto Before Chainsaw Man, gathering early stories that range from heartfelt to delightfully strange, often surreal even without any supernatural twist.
It is the latest project to bring the work of Tatsuki Fujimoto, the creator of Fire Punch and Chainsaw Man, to the screen. The production involves Avex Animation Labels president Ryo Oyama, who previously helped guide the acclaimed film adaptation of Fujimoto’s Look Back, and it is being made at the newly founded STUDIO GRAPH77.
The shorts come from a varied lineup of talent. They include A Couple Clucking Chickens Were Still Kickin’ in the Schoolyard, Sasaki Stopped a Bullet, Love is Blind, and Shikaku, each with its own director and animation studio behind it.
That spread of creators suits the material well, since Fujimoto’s early one shots are known for their wildly different tones and ideas.
My take: Fujimoto’s one shots are some of the most inventive short comics out there, so seeing them animated by different teams is genuinely exciting. After how beautifully Look Back turned out, my expectations here are high.
