Studio Ghibli Releases New Howl’s Moving Castle Limited-Edition Calendar for Fans to Decorate Like a Wizard
Studio Ghibli’s official online store has released a magical new Howl’s Moving Castle castle-themed calendar just in time to decorate like a wizard this Halloween.
Donguri Sora, the official Studio Ghibli merchandise platform, has released a brand-new Howl’s Moving Castle-themed castle calendar just in time for the year’s best season for witches and wizards everywhere to decorate. The calendar is a perfect miniature replica of the titular castle in Howl’s Moving Castle, sitting at just under five inches, with the addition of four die-like calendar cubes that can be manually customized to display the month and day of the week in English, along with the date. The calendar is currently priced at 16,500 yen, or approximately US$108. Official images can be seen below.

The castle itself is one of Studio Ghibli’s most beloved creations, brought to life in the 2004 film Howl’s Moving Castle, directed by Hayao Miyazaki. The movie, based on Diana Wynne Jones’ 1986 novel of the same name, follows Sophie, a young milliner who falls under an aging curse from the Witch of the Waste and finds unexpected refuge in the ever-moving “castle” of the mysterious wizard, Howl. Sophie becomes a crucial piece of the castle’s makeshift family, and finds herself falling in love with Howl as he battles a draft into the country’s ongoing war.
The film has become one of Studio Ghibli’s most popular productions, and the castle’s design — a steamwork patchwork of pipes, gears, and turrets, a stark contrast from a traditional “castle” — have become an enduring symbol of Miyazaki’s imagination and remains a fan-favorite piece of Ghibli architecture.
Unfortunately, Donguri Sora does not currently ship outside Japan. However, international fans may still find the Howl’s Moving Castle clock through select resellers on eBay or official third-party platforms such as Meccha Japan.
