Sound! Euphonium The Final Movie Part 1 Opens April 2026
Kyoto Animation has confirmed the next chapter for one of its most beloved series. During its “Meet the Worlds of KyoAni” event on Sunday, the studio announced that Sound! Euphonium, The Final Movie Part 1 will open in Japan on April 24, 2026, screening in 200 theaters.
A fresh trailer arrived alongside the news, complete with English subtitles you can toggle on, and the studio also shared a new key visual. KyoAni frames the film as the grand finale of a story that has followed a group of high school students and their concert band for a full decade.
After the emotional close of Sound! Euphonium 3 in 2024, this movie is meant to be the true conclusion. The team has added plenty of new material, including performance scenes that never appeared in the television run, so even longtime viewers should find something fresh.
Much of the core crew is returning. Tatsuya Ishihara serves as chief director with Taichi Ogawa directing, Jukki Hanada has written a new script, and Shoko Ikeda and Kazumi Ikeda handle character designs, with Kazumi Ikeda also acting as chief animation director. Akito Matsuda is back composing the music.
The franchise has come a long way since its first television season in 2015, growing through sequels, compilation films, and side stories like Liz and the Blue Bird. The third season aired in spring 2024 and streamed widely through Crunchyroll, following Kumiko into her final year of high school.
My take: Ten years is a long time to spend with one band of students, and bowing out with a film feels right. I just hope the second part is not too far behind, because a finale split in two always tests a fan’s patience.
