Utawarerumono Zan 2 Action Game Is Coming to Steam From Shiravune

Shiravune has announced that Utawarerumono: Zan 2, the AQUAPLUS action game, is coming to PC via Steam. No release date has been confirmed yet, but the game is already available to add to your wishlist on Steam. The game originally launched for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in Japan in July 2021.

Utawarerumono: Zan 2 expands on the story of Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth through fast-paced action gameplay, hitting the highlights of that game in a format designed to be approachable whether you are a longtime fan revisiting familiar moments or a newer player discovering the franchise for the first time.

The original Utawarerumono: ZAN is also getting a Steam release from Shiravune on October 23, 2025. That title came out in Japan in September 2018 and reached the West via NIS America in September 2019. The broader Utawarerumono franchise stretches back to the original visual novel in 2002, which eventually led to a 2006 television anime, a full trilogy of games, and the standalone 20th anniversary title Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten, which launched for PlayStation in September 2023.

The anime adaptation of Mask of Truth premiered in July 2022 and is available on Crunchyroll with an English dub. The earlier Mask of Deception anime, which aired in October 2015, is also available to stream there.

My take: Utawarerumono has one of the more dedicated fanbases in the visual novel and JRPG crossover space, and getting Zan 2 onto Steam is a meaningful step toward bringing that world to players who missed the console releases. If it draws a few new fans into the broader trilogy, that is a real win for a franchise that has always deserved more attention outside Japan.
