RetroGameCon respawns at the OnCenter for its 12th installment
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Gamers, cosplayers, and otaku of all persuasions are uniting at the OnCenter this weekend. The annual RetroGameCon has returned for its 12th iteration.
In addition to rows upon rows of setups running classic titles and new releases, attendees can meet-and-greet the voice actors behind some of their favorite characters. E-sports tournaments, cosplay contests, tabletop one-shots, and a catalog full of other offerings ensure the weekend is packed full of fun for gamers old and young.
Brian, an attendee we spoke with, says meeting the talent is always a treat. “They’re just genuinely good people. They say don’t meet your heroes, but sometimes it works out… It’s a great feeling, and a great community.”
When asked about the most memorable costume she saw, Andrea, another attendee, rolls up her sleeve. “It’s actually not a gaming costume, but it’s an anime which I haven’t seen in over 10 years– it was Alucard from Hellsing,” of whom she has a tattoo on her upper arm. “When you see an obscure character– which happens a lot at these cons– you just want to go up and hug them, if they allow it,” she says, before stopping to add: “Make sure you ask for consent.”
The last day of the con runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
