My Status as an Assassin Exceeds the Hero’s Gets a Same-Day Dub
Crunchyroll will stream the anime of Matsuri Akai’s light novel My Status as an Assassin Obviously Exceeds the Hero’s starting October 6, the very same day it debuts in Japan, with an English dub ready to go.
The series premieres on TV Tokyo late that night, then streams on Japanese services right after broadcast, with Crunchyroll carrying it worldwide outside of Asia. Jad Saxton directs the English dub.
The story follows Oda Akira, an utterly forgettable young man who is summoned to another world. There he is given the class of assassin, a role looked down on compared to the hero, yet his hidden strength far outstrips everyone’s expectations. When he uncovers a dark scheme, he makes a dangerous enemy of the very king who brought him over, and with the help of the elven medium Amelia he sets out to put things right.
Nobuyoshi Habara directs the anime, with music by Satoshi Igarashi, the virtual duo VESPERBELL on the opening theme, and BONNIE PINK on the ending. Seven Seas publishes both the novels and the manga in English.
My take: Same day subtitled and dubbed releases are such a gift for fans who hate waiting. The underestimated assassin premise is well worn isekai territory, but the strong staff and that simultaneous dub give it a real shot at finding an audience right away.
