My Awkward Senpai Anime Casts Nashiko Momotsuki
The team behind the anime of Makoto Kudo’s My Awkward Senpai announced on Saturday that model and cosplayer Nashiko Momotsuki will guest star in the show. She appears in episode 4 as a character named Nashiko Akizuki, in an episode set to air on October 23, and she is also serving as a promotional ambassador for the series.
The anime premiered on October 2, airing on Tokyo MX and BS NTV, with additional broadcasts on AT-X. It streams on services including U-NEXT and Anime Hōdai.
Behind the scenes, Ayumu Kotake directs at Studio Elle, with Mio Inoue handling series scripts, Kenrō Tokuda designing the characters, and Kōji Fujimoto composing the music.
The story is a sweet romantic comedy about Kannawa, a senpai who is wonderful in many ways but anything but smooth. When she meets her new kouhai Kamegawa, a cute and easygoing young man who is a little nerdy, she finds herself wrestling with unfamiliar feelings.
Kudo first shared the manga on social media in March 2019 before it began serialization in Square Enix’s Young Gangan that December. The series has continued steadily since, reaching its tenth volume in late September.
My take: An awkward, flustered senpai is such an endearing kind of lead, and bringing in a cosplayer guest star is a fun touch. This sounds like a gentle, blush filled comedy worth a look.
