Magic Knight Rayearth Returns on October 7

CLAMP’s classic is officially back. The new Magic Knight Rayearth anime project revealed its second main trailer and key visual during Anime Expo 2026, along with additional voice cast and a premiere date of October 7.

A nineties legend gets a second life

For a generation of fans, Magic Knight Rayearth was the gateway: three schoolgirls pulled into the world of Cephiro, giant mecha wrapped in fantasy, and CLAMP’s signature blend of sincerity and heartbreak. The original anime aired over thirty years ago, and its return lands in the middle of a broader nineties revival wave that has already brought back several classics to strong numbers.

Remakes of beloved series carry obvious risk, and Rayearth’s ending remains one of the most famous gut punches in magical girl history. Whether the new project retells that story or reimagines it, an October 7 date means we find out soon.

The original television series aired in the mid nineties and became many western fans’ first contact with the idea that magical girl stories could carry real narrative weight. CLAMP’s design sensibility, all sharp elegance and emotional sincerity, shaped a generation of artists. A revival lands differently when the source still gets recommended thirty years later, and Rayearth absolutely does.

My take: Rayearth walked so half the modern isekai genre could run. If the remake keeps CLAMP’s willingness to hurt its audience, it will earn its place.
