Live-Action Futari Escape Series Adds More Cast
The team behind the live-action adaptation of Shoichi Taguchi’s manga Futari Escape, known in English as Our Escape, shared a fun casting note. Nogizaka46 idol Mayu Tamura voiced the radio DJ heard in the first episode, and the character is set to return in later episodes.
The late-night weekly series premiered on TV Osaka and TV Aichi on October 4, and also streams within Japan on Lemino Premium and TVer.
The story follows two young women, one an overworked manga artist and the other a cheerful slacker, as they try to slip away from the pressures of adult life through small indulgences and shared comforts. Seven Seas publishes the manga in English.
Kahori Higashi directs and co-writes the scripts with Mari Kawada. Taguchi, beyond creating the original manga, also composes the music for the series, while singer-songwriter Kentaro Seino performs an opening theme written just for the show.
Taguchi ran the manga in Ichijinsha’s Comic Yuri Hime from 2020 to 2022, collected across four volumes.
My take: A gentle slice of life about escaping the grind sounds like exactly the kind of cozy watch I reach for after a long day. Having the original creator score the adaptation is a sweet, personal touch.
