Live Action Drops of God Returns for Season 2 in January
Apple TV+ announced on Wednesday that the second season of Drops of God, the acclaimed live action adaptation of Tadashi Agi and Shū Okimoto’s manga The Drops of God, will premiere on January 21, 2026. The eight episode season will release a new installment each week through March 11.
The series is a truly international production, bringing together American, French, and Japanese companies, and it tells its story across multiple languages. Its first season debuted on Apple TV+ in 2023 and went on to win the International Emmy for Drama Series.
Much of the creative team is returning, with Oded Ruskin again directing and Quoc Dang Tran writing the scripts.
The story is set in the rich world of fine wine. It follows Camille Léger, played by French actress Fleur Geffrier, and Issei Tomino, played by Tomohisa Yamashita, as their lives become entwined through a high stakes contest tied to a legendary wine expert’s legacy.
For a manga adaptation to win a major international television award is a notable feat, and the new season arrives with real expectations behind it.
My take: An Emmy winning live action take on a manga is a wonderful sign of how far these stories travel. The Drops of God turns wine tasting into genuine drama, and I am glad it is getting a second pour.
