Chiruran Shinsengumi Requiem Live Action Series Casts Go Ayano as Serizawa Kamo
The official website for the live action adaptation of Eiji Hashimoto and Shinya Umemura’s Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem manga has announced that actor Go Ayano will join the cast as Serizawa Kamo, one of the founding leaders of the group that would eventually become the Shinsengumi. The adaptation is set to air on TBS as a special in spring 2026 and will also stream on U-NEXT.
Serizawa Kamo is one of the most compelling figures in Shinsengumi history. He served as the organization’s first commander before being assassinated by his own men in 1863, and his brutal and unpredictable nature has made him a recurring dramatic presence in adaptations of the era. Go Ayano brings significant presence to roles that require that kind of intensity.
Chiruran: Shinsengumi Requiem follows the members of the legendary samurai police force during the late Edo period, exploring the tensions, loyalties, and violence that defined the group’s short but legendary existence. The manga has a dedicated following among fans of historical samurai stories.
My take: Go Ayano as Serizawa Kamo is a casting choice that makes immediate sense. The role demands someone who can project both charisma and menace in equal measure, and Ayano has shown he can do exactly that. Spring 2026 on TBS with a streaming run on U-NEXT gives this a solid platform. Worth watching for fans of the Shinsengumi era.
