KPop Demon Hunters Sets a Netflix Longevity Record

Netflix’s animated film KPop Demon Hunters keeps adding to its remarkable run. It has now spent 15 straight weeks on Netflix’s Global Top 10 Movies list, making it the longest running English language film ever to hold a place there.

Even more impressive, it never once slipped below the number two spot during that entire stretch, and it currently sits back at number one. The film was watched 19.3 million times in the past week alone, pushing its total to a staggering 325.1 million views and making it the most watched original Netflix title of all time.

The movie began streaming on June 20 and later received a two day theatrical release in the United States, where it became the first Netflix film to top the U.S. weekend box office. There is even a karaoke version that lets viewers sing along.

My take: The staying power here is genuinely astonishing. Animated musicals do not usually dominate for months on end, and the fact that fans keep coming back to sing along tells you KPop Demon Hunters struck a real chord. A lovely success story.
