Call of the Night Manga Returns With a New Paradise Arc
Call of the Night is not quite finished after all. The 30th issue of Shogakukan’s Weekly Shonen Sunday revealed on June 25 that Kotoyama would launch a short new story for the series, titled Yofukashi no Uta Rakuen hen, or Call of the Night Paradise Arc, in the following issue on July 2.
The original manga, by Kotoyama of Dagashi Kashi fame, ran in Weekly Shonen Sunday from August 2019 to January 2024, wrapping up with its 20th and final volume that March. Viz Media publishes it in English. It follows Ko, a restless boy drawn into the nighttime world by the vampire Nazuna as he wrestles with whether he truly wants to become one of the undead.
The story has thrived on screen too. The anime’s first season premiered in July 2022, with HIDIVE streaming it in subtitled form and adding an English dub that September, and a second season followed on July 4.
My take: Call of the Night has such a dreamy, late night mood that I am happy for any excuse to step back into it. A short Paradise Arc feels like the perfect nightcap for fans who were not ready to say goodbye.
