Kei Sanbe Launches New Manga Snow Drop in Young Gangan

ERASED creator Kei Sanbe has a new manga on the way. The 19th issue of Square Enix’s Young Gangan magazine revealed last Friday that he will launch a series called Snow Drop ~Anata no Shi o Nozomimasu~, or Snow Drop ~I Desire Your Death~.

A start date has not been set yet, but the magazine says its next issue, due October 3, will share more details. The news arrives while Sanbe is already busy with two ongoing titles, Reto the Protector and The 13th Footprint, both begun in March 2023 and both available in English, the first through Manga UP! and the second through Yen Press.

Sanbe is best known for ERASED, which he serialized from 2012 to 2016. The time bending thriller earned nominations for the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize, the Manga Taisho Awards and the Seiun award, and it grew into a 2016 anime, a Japanese film, and a Netflix live action series in 2017.

His other works include For the Kid I Saw in My Dreams and Island in a Puddle, both of which have been released in English. With Snow Drop, that catalog of tense, emotional storytelling is about to grow again.

My take: Sanbe has a real gift for dread that sneaks up on you, so a title that translates to “I Desire Your Death” already has my attention. I will be watching for the October update.
