Kakao Rolls Out a Free AI Tool to Turn Webtoons Into Short Videos
Kakao Entertainment has introduced a new artificial intelligence tool that lets webtoon creators turn their comics into short form videos, and it is being offered free of charge.
Called the Helix Shorts AI Agent, the tool automatically picks out key scenes from a webtoon and converts them into clips of around 40 seconds. It became available to creators starting in late September.
This builds on Helix Shorts, which Kakao launched in April across Kakao Page. Before now, the company chose specific titles itself to adapt into short videos. The new agent hands that ability directly to creators, who can generate and distribute their own clips.
The tool first went out to partners producing Kakao Page exclusive webtoons, with wider availability planned. Finished videos can be posted on Kakao Page, used on partner websites, or shared on outside platforms like YouTube.
My take: Putting promotional tools directly in creators’ hands feels like a thoughtful move. My one quiet hope is that automated clips never replace the human craft of a good trailer, but as a free way to help artists reach new readers, this seems genuinely useful.
