Jujutsu Kaisen Lands at Number 7 on a New York Times List
The 27th volume of Gege Akutami’s Jujutsu Kaisen has landed at number seven on The New York Times’ monthly Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list, released in early October.
It is a familiar position for the series, which has been a steady presence on the chart. Just last month, the same volume sat even higher at number three.
That September list was a strong showing for manga and webcomics in general. Solo Leveling held the top spot, while popular titles like SPY x FAMILY, DAN DA DAN, and Kagurabachi all charted, and a second Jujutsu Kaisen volume even appeared further down the list.
For a bit of context, The New York Times introduced its dedicated Graphic Books and Manga bestseller list back in October 2019, and it has since become a useful snapshot of how well the medium is selling in the mainstream market.
My take: Seeing manga hold so many spots on a mainstream bestseller list is a quiet but telling sign of how far it has come. Jujutsu Kaisen continuing to chart even after its story wrapped speaks to its staying power.
