Once Upon a Katamari Debuts as Pokemon Holds Number One
Japan’s game sales chart for the week of October 20 to 26 still had Pokémon firmly in front. Pokémon Legends: Z A held both of the top two places, with the Switch version at number one and the Switch 2 version at number two, pushing its combined total well past a million copies.
Mario Kart World stayed strong at number three, continuing its long and steady run near the top of the chart.
The week’s big newcomer was Once Upon a Katamari from Bandai Namco, which launched on October 23 and rolled in at number four on Switch, with its PlayStation 5 version landing further down at number nine.
Other fresh arrivals included Ninja Gaiden at number five and Persona 3 Reload at number seven, both released around October 21 to 23. Familiar faces like Ghost of Yotei, the Super Mario Galaxy collection, Battlefield 6, and the ever present Minecraft filled out the rest of the upper chart.
My take: It is impressive that Pokémon is still on top a couple of weeks in. I am especially glad to see a quirky favorite like Katamari land a strong debut right behind it.
