Gintama Yoshiwara in Flames Film Opens on February 13
The official website for the new Gintama compilation film, Yoshiwara in Flames, announced on Friday that it will open on February 13, 2026. The site also shared a new still showing a smiling Gintoki standing amidst the flames.
The film covers episodes 139 to 146 of the anime and sweetens the deal with newly animated scenes, along with characters who did not appear in the original arc. The announcement came during a 20th anniversary event over the weekend.
Naoya Ando is directing from a script by Taku Kishimoto at BN Pictures, with longtime Gintama director Yōichi Fujita supervising and Shinji Takeuchi handling character designs.
It is just one piece of a busy anniversary slate. The franchise has been running a series of Gintama on Theater 2D compilation screenings since 2023, and its two finale films are even getting special 4DX showings.
The celebrations mark a double milestone, with 2023 being twenty years since the manga debuted and 2026 being twenty years since the television anime began.
My take: Gintama earns this kind of victory lap, and adding fresh footage to a compilation is a thoughtful touch for longtime fans. The Yoshiwara arc is a real high point, so seeing it on the big screen sounds great.
