Nokuto Koike’s Ghostly Darkness of Kanata Manga Ends
Gentosha Comics’ Comic Boost platform posted the final chapter of Nokuto Koike’s manga Ghostly Darkness of Kanata on Friday, bringing the supernatural series to a close.
The timing is interesting for English readers, since Titan Manga is only just beginning its release, with the first volume due on December 9.
The story is described as a gripping supernatural thriller that blurs the line between reality and the afterlife, following a woman whose obsession with ghosts pulls her into a world of genuine terror.
Koike began the series in 2023, and it joins a busy body of work for the artist, who also has the ongoing titles My Old Man Neighbor and Serial Killer Land.
Koike has notable collaborations to his name as well, including work with Ryukishi07 on an entry in the When They Cry universe and a tribute manga tied to the 2017 live action Ghost in the Shell film.
My take: A tight, self contained supernatural thriller can be a real treat, and it is good that English readers are getting it just as it wraps up in Japan. Koike clearly has a gift for unsettling stories.
