Gachiakuta Season 2 Confirmed and in Production

Gachiakuta Season 2 is officially in production at Bones Film, and Anime Expo 2026 delivered the first look. A teaser shown during the event introduced several new characters, though a release date is still being kept under wraps.

The trash pit shonen that earned its sequel

Kei Urana’s story about Rudo, a boy thrown into a literal abyss of garbage and left to survive among the discarded, turned out to be one of the strongest new shonen adaptations of recent seasons. Bones Film gave the first season real weight, with grimy, kinetic action and a visual identity most new series would kill for.

The new characters in the teaser point at the story expanding well beyond the Cleaners we already know, which is where the manga starts stacking its most interesting ideas about class, waste and who society decides to throw away. It is angrier than the average battle series, and that anger is the point.

The first season also benefited from one of the most distinctive visual identities in recent shonen, with graffiti influenced designs that made the trash heap world feel alive and hostile at once. That style is expensive to maintain, which is another reason a longer production runway reads as good news rather than delay. The manga has plenty of story banked, so the adaptation can pick its pace without ever running out of road.

With no date attached, a late 2027 window seems like the realistic guess given typical production schedules. The teaser and production news were reported by Anime Corner.

My take: Gachiakuta deserved this renewal. It looks like nothing else on the shonen shelf, and Bones Film clearly cares about the material. Take the time and get it right.
