The official website for the television anime of Minoru Toyoda’s manga Draw this, then die!, titled Kore Kaite Shine in Japanese, opened on Tuesday. Alongside it came a teaser promotional video that confirmed the director, the studio, and a 2026 premiere.

The site also unveiled the first character visuals.

The story is set in Izuōshima, an island roughly 120 kilometers south of Tokyo. It follows Ai Yasumi, a high school girl who adores reading manga and slowly discovers both the joy and the pain of drawing her own.
Toyoda, the creator of Love Roma, launched the manga in Shogakukan’s Monthly Shonen Sunday magazine in November 2021, and it also runs on Sunday Webry, with the eighth volume due on October 10. The series has earned real acclaim too, picking up a prize at the 70th Shogakukan Manga Awards in January, winning the 16th Manga Taisho in 2023, and landing at number six for male readers in that year’s Kono Manga ga Sugoi! guidebook.
My take: A story about the quiet ache and delight of making your own manga feels like a love letter to every aspiring artist, and that blunt little title only makes me more curious.
