WWWave’s Android Romance Anime Premieres in January
The official website for the short anime adaptation of Yakinikuteishoku’s manga Does It Count If You Lose Your Virginity to an Android? opened on Tuesday, sharing the cast, staff, and a January premiere. It is being produced under WWWave’s Deregula label.
Ayaka Shimizu voices the lead, Akane Tsuda, a hard working and well liked employee at a robotics company. After a tipsy night, she ends up buying an android to help tidy her cluttered home.
That android, named Nadeshiko, is played by Marika Hayase, and there is a twist: she is actually a so called Romance roid, and an illegal one at that. Rounding out the cast, VTuber Komaru Kurikoma guest stars as Itō-san, a junior at Akane’s workplace.
On the staff side, Neko B is directing the series and writing its scripts, with Mitsuru Tsukiumi handling the character designs.
As with the manga, the series is aimed at adult readers, so its content and ratings are worth keeping in mind before tuning in.
My take: The reveal that the android is a contraband Romance roid adds a fun, mischievous wrinkle to the setup. It sounds like a cheeky, lighthearted comedy, and a short format suits that kind of breezy story well.
