New Black Clover Anime Gets Major Shonen Jump Reveal in 2025
The original, still ongoing Black Clover manga by Yuki Tabata premiered in the pages of Weekly Shonen Jump in 2015 and quickly found a footing with fans as the latest supernatural-action shonen series. Black Clover revolves around Asta, a young orphan living in a world replete with magical mana who, unfortunately, has no mana of his own with which to practice magic; meanwhile, his friend Yuno is effectively a prodigy. The pair go on to enjoy a fierce yet friendly rivalry as they both embark upon adventures to become the next Wizard King and protect their world from the myriad of monstrous horrors that threaten it.
The Black Clover anime series premiered in 2017 to widely positive reviews from critics and audiences. Over the course of four years, Black Clover amassed 168 episodes across four seasons, garnering stellar ratings at every step along the way. Currently, the original anime holds a near-perfect 90% rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes’ audience-generated “Popcornmeter.” In 2023, the series received a follow-up animated film, Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King, which still holds a perfect 100% rating via Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across a half dozen verified critical reviews. For comparison, the “Popcornmeter” score for Black Clover: Sword of the Wizard King currently stands at 92%, as averaged across more than 1,000 reviews.
In July 2025 at Anime Expo, fans got their first look at the next series, or season, of the Black Clover anime, courtesy of a teaser trailer released by streaming giant Crunchyroll. Like the original Black Clover, the upcoming series will be animated by Studio Pierrot, who will continue to adapt the events of the original manga. Black Clover creator Yuki Tabata said of the news at the time, “The production of the long-awaited new anime season of Black Clover has been confirmed!… Thanks to all of you, Black Clover is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year! I definitely plan to keep this hype going! I want fans from Japan and all around the world to enjoy the powered-up anime that’s going to be brought to you by the most awesome anime production staff! Thank you so much for supporting Black Clover!”
