Death Stranding Anime and A24 Movie Will Tell Original Stories That Go Beyond The Games
Kojima Productions continues to expand the Death Stranding franchise outside of video games. We’ve known for a while that Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One director Michael Sarnoski is on board to direct a live-action adaptation for A24, but today we also got a teaser trailer for an anime project with the working title, Death Stranding Mosquito.
The trailer shows a Beached Things dog-like creature with eyes on its hands cowering in front of a person in fighting gear until another person armed in fighting gear and a black goo proboscis attacks them, leading us to a meaty fight sequence.
The anime is directed by Hiroshi Miyamoto at ABC Animation Studio, with a script from Aaron Guzikowski (Raised by Wolves). That script also appears to be an original story, not a direct adaptation of one of the video games.
We also learned that the live-action film will have an original story as well, with Sarnoski saying at today’s Beyond the Strand event (via Gamespot) that his movie will “capture the soul of the game and capture the themes of the game but tell a story that you haven’t seen in that world and explore characters you haven’t seen before.”
Both of these projects still seem to be in their early days, however, with no news on casting or release dates. While we wait for more info, check out the anime trailer below.
