Crunchyroll’s Gnosia Is Everything Among Us Wanted to Be
Among Us is arguably one of the most popular video games of the last decade, with its iconic characters and even the weight of some strained friendships still fresh in the memories of many fans. Luckily, fans of Among Us‘ impostor-style mechanics now have the perfect substitute thanks to one of Crunchyroll‘s new anime adaptations: Gnosia.
Gnosia‘s premise may seem unoriginal at first glance, and some consider it simply an anime knockoff of Among Us. However, Gnosia is shaping up to be a better alternative in every way than Among Us, catering to anime fans and gamers as well as those in the mood for a good thriller to test their deduction skills.
Gnosia Takes the Premise of Among Us to the Extreme
Based on the 2019 visual novel, in Gnosia, an amnesiac protagonist wakes up on a spaceship where an intruder, a shape-shifting alien life form, disguises itself to kill the crew. As the characters must discover who the impostor is and vote to lock away the alien threat, the anime has an atmosphere of distrust comparable to that of Among Us.
However, Gnosia is more reminiscent of the social deductions of the game Werewolf than Among Us. While this comparison could make viewers think that the story will get boring quickly, Gnosia‘s greatest charm is its narrative depth and how it turns the story upside down with an incredible plot twist in its first episode, raising the suspense to the limit.
This ensures that nothing becomes predictable in Gnosia, as everything changes in each episode. Nothing is wasted in Gnosia, with every detail, dialogue, and character expression meticulously curated to allow the audience to decipher who the intruder is. Furthermore, the anime even has an extended runtime of 27 minutes to make the most of the characters.
Gnosia Is a Must-Watch Anime for Sci-Fi Fans
Gnosia is a space murder mystery with a similar vibe to Astra Lost in Space but with the tension of a thriller like John Carpenter’s standout film The Thing, making it Crunchyroll’s most intriguing anime of Fall 2025. Beyond its high production quality, featuring a stunning art style and character designs, Gnosia’s greatest strength is its excellent direction.
The anime effectively conveys the sense of manipulation and paranoia using visual storytelling to keep viewers on edge, wondering about whom the impostor is. This makes Gnosia a fascinating anime that no Among Us fan should miss and one of the best proposals for sci-fi fans of the year that makes use of the greatest staples of the genre.
