Cosmetic Playlover Manga and Bitterness Playlover Spinoff Both Ending in November
Sachi Narashima’s Cosmetic Playlover manga and its spinoff Bitterness Playlover are both coming to an end. Libre Publishing’s Magazine Be-Boy announced that final chapters for both series will appear in the magazine’s December issue, which ships on November 7.
Cosmetic Playlover is a boys love manga centered on Natsume Mamiya, a beauty consultant who ends up working alongside Touma Sahashi, his competitive and dismissive junior. After Touma finds out Natsume is gay, their already fraught dynamic shifts into something more complicated. The series has been available in English digitally through multiple platforms, including Manga Planet’s futekiya BL catalog.
Bitterness Playlover, a spinoff focusing on different characters Keigo Kakizaki and Yukito Saionji, has been running irregularly in the same magazine since July 2018. A second spinoff, Twilight Playlover, centered on Atsushi Nanjo and Iori Kosaka and ran from October 2020 to July 2021.
Narashima launched the original manga in Magazine Be-Boy in 2017, and Libre Publishing released the ninth compiled volume in September 2024. The series also inspired a live action adaptation, with the first season airing on Fuji TV in August 2024. A second season is set to debut on Fuji TV and FOD in January 2026.
My take: Eight years is a good run for a manga series, and having both the main series and its spinoff conclude together feels like a tidy send-off. For readers who have followed Natsume and Touma from the beginning, the timing with the second live action season also coming up makes this a good moment for the franchise overall.
