Bukimi Miki’s SHY Manga Will End in Three Chapters
The 46th issue of Akita Publishing’s Weekly Shōnen Champion announced on Thursday that Bukimi Miki’s SHY manga is nearing its finish. The series will wrap up in just three more chapters.
For anyone unfamiliar, SHY is set on an Earth that was once on the edge of a third World War, until super powered heroes emerged from countries around the globe and brought about a more peaceful era. Japan’s representative is a shy young girl who goes by that very name, and she often worries about her own shortcomings more than she focuses on the villains, yet she still carries the true heart of a hero.
Miki first introduced Shy as a one shot in Weekly Shōnen Champion in January 2017 before beginning the full serialization in August 2019. The 31st Japanese volume arrived on October 8, while Yen Press, which publishes the series in English, has its 11th volume due on October 28.
The manga also reached the screen. Its anime adaptation premiered in Japan in October 2023, with a second season following in July 2024 on TV Tokyo and other networks. Crunchyroll streamed both as they aired and offers an English dub as well.
My take: It is always a little bittersweet to see a long running series reach its ending. SHY has such a gentle, encouraging heart, and I hope these final chapters give its heroine the send off she deserves.
