Black Clover Season 2 Premieres Today on Crunchyroll
Asta is finally back on television. Black Clover Season 2 premieres today, October 3, on Crunchyroll with a full slate of dubs at launch, and Studio Pierrot returns to animate the raid on the Spade Kingdom.
Picking up where the manga got serious
The new season opens with tyranny spreading across the Clover Kingdom and the Magic Knights launching a desperate rescue mission for their squad captains, held by the Dark Triad in the Spade Kingdom. It is the arc where Yuki Tabata’s manga shifts from tournament escalation to something closer to a war story, and it contains some of the most brutal fights the series has ever drawn.
The original anime ended in 2021 with this material untouched, and the 2023 film was a side story. For fans, today is the first new canon Black Clover animation in five years, which explains why the September advance screening at Crunchyroll sold out.
What to expect from Pierrot
Pierrot animated the original run and knows this cast inside out, and the trailers with WANIMA’s theme song have shown a production with more budget per episode than the weekly grind ever allowed. The premiere date was confirmed in the fall lineup reported by Animation World Network.
My take: Five years of waiting for the Spade Kingdom raid ends today. If Pierrot delivers on the Dark Triad fights, this becomes the comeback of the year.
